IWIPS 2011 provides an appropriate platform in addressing internationalisation and localisation issues such as usability, product design, user interface design, ethnographic methods, policies, and cultural data collection methods when designing and developing internationally marketed products and systems.

Topic of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Internationalization/ localisation of software products, web applications, and hardware products
  • Processes for producing international products
  • Methodologies for the collection of international design data
  • Methodologies for the evaluation of international products
  • Addressing Cultural differences in product design
  • Design of products for multilingual communities
  • Using metaphors for international products
  • Systems for adapting products
  • Cultural attitudes towards technology
  • Cultural bias and adaptation-Cultural diversity and unification
  • Affect of technology on culture
  • Global Culture vs. Local Culture on the Internet
  • Technologies that enhance/aid the design of international products

The first workshop, IWIPS'99, was held at the Rochester Riverside Convention Centre, Rochester, NY USA. The 2001 workshop was held at the Open University, in Milton Keynes, UK, the first to be held outside the U.S.. Following the success of the nineth IWIPS 2010 in London, UK, IWIPS'11 is being held for the first time in Asia, i.e. in Kuching, Borneo, Malaysia.  In addition to the conference, the location would provide participants a first-hand glimpse of the cultural diversity, the home of 2.4 million people comprising more than 30 ethnic groups and 63 languages. At IWIPS 2011, the participants will consist of designers, practitioners, researchers, from both academia and industry. Given the location, we expect more participation from Asian countries. The workshop will offer tutorials, industrial case studies, demonstrations, keynotes and presentations. In addition, participants will also be able to network and share knowledge and experiences with participants from another co-located conference, Seventh  Conference on Information Technology in Asia 2011 (CITA '11) held simultaneously with IWIPS 2011. Registration to IWIP 2011 will also entitle you to complimentary registration to CITA'11
